چکیده

INTRODUCTION Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a blockage in one of the pulmonary arteries in the lungs. Since PE almost always occurs in conjunction with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), these two conditions together refer as venous thromboembolism (VTE). PE after shoulder arthroscopy is unusual and rare (reported incidence rate: 0.01 0.06%)1-3, but potentially life threatening.4 All patients with PE have a case fatality rate of 7 11%.5 In the body of literature, there were less than 50 reported cases of DVT and PE after shoulder arthroscopy.1-3, 6-26 The majority involved patients with a significant risk factor or underlying predisposition toward VTE.23 This case report presents a patient with inflammatory bowel disease who developed a symptomatic PE involving the medial segment of the right middle lobe of lung after arthroscopic Bankart and rotator cuff repair following a traumatic shoulder dislocation.

Pulmonary Embolism after Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Case Report

Total hip/knee arthroplasty may cause venous thromboembolism (VTE) as a postoperative complication. However, there are few reports on VTE after arthroscopic shoulder surgery. We report a patient who developed pulmonary embolism (PE) 6 days after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair but recovered without sequelae. In this case, the possibility of DVT of the lower limbs was denied by contrast-enhance...

Fatal pulmonary embolism caused by thrombosis of contralateral axillary vein after arthroscopic right rotator cuff repair -A case report-

A clinically apparent thromboembolism associated with arthroscopic shoulder surgery is extremely rare. We report a case of a fatal pulmonary embolism developed after an arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in a 45-year-old woman. On the first day after surgery, she experienced syncope that was complicated by cardiac arrest. No hemostasis impairment was noted. A computed tomography scan revealed a p...

Evaluation of functional results from shoulders after arthroscopic repair of complete rotator cuff tears associated with traumatic anterior dislocation.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical outcome of arthroscopic rotator cuff fixation and, when present, simultaneous repair of the Bankart lesion caused by traumatic dislocation; and to assess whether the size of the rotator cuff injury caused by traumatic dislocation has any influence on the postoperative clinical outcomes. METHODS Thirty-three patients with traumatic shoulder dislocation and co...

Functional and imaging outcomes of arthroscopic simultaneous rotator cuff repair and bankart repair after shoulder dislocations.

BACKGROUND Previous studies have investigated outcomes of simultaneous rotator cuff (RC) repair and superior labral injury repair; however, there is limited information in the literature on outcomes of simultaneous RC repair and Bankart lesion repair after acute shoulder dislocations. PURPOSE To determine functional and imaging outcomes of simultaneous arthroscopic RC repair and Bankart repai...

Preliminary Results of a Consecutive Series of Large & Massive Rotator Cuff Tears Treated with Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repairs Augmented with Extracellular Matrix

Background: Recurrence rate of rotator cuff tears is still high despite the improvements of surgical techniques, materials used and a better knowledge of the healing process of the rotator cuff tendons. Large to massive rotator cuff tears are particularly associated with a high failure rate, especially in elderly. Augmentation of rotator cuff repairs with extracellular matrix or synthetic patc...
